General Dynamics Awarded $3.3M Order to Upgrade Telecommunications Infrastructure at Fort Sill
NEEDHAM, Mass. – General Dynamics Network Systems has won a $3.3 million delivery order to upgrade and expand the telecommunications infrastructure at Fort Sill, Okla., under the U.S. Army's Digital Switch Systems Modernization Program (DSSMP). General Dynamics Network Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
This order includes a new communications building to house both data and voice switches, and the outside cable plant (manhole and duct system, and fiber and copper cable) to provide connections among new and renovated buildings at Fort Sill, the Army's artillery training center, near Lawton, Okla.
The delivery order also establishes options for two additional phases of work, comprising additional outside cable plant upgrades and the installation of a high-speed Gigabit-Ethernet data network. The combined network and cable plant project will result in a comprehensive enterprise-wide communications infrastructure, implemented under the Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP), using the multiple-award DSSMP as the contract vehicle.
"This was a very competitive and technically challenging assignment to bid," said Dan Allen, vice president and general manager for General Dynamics Network Systems. "General Dynamics is excited to have the opportunity to enhance the communications capabilities of Fort Sill."
General Dynamics has a long history of success in upgrading telecommunications infrastructure at U.S. military bases worldwide. The Fort Sill project follows orders for major Army infrastructure upgrades at Fort Riley, Kan., Anniston Army Depot, Ala., and Fort Knox, Ky. General Dynamics is also providing outside plant upgrades and expansions at seven Marine Corps bases on Okinawa; Camp Fuji, Japan; and Marine Corps Air Station-Iwakuni, Japan. Combined, these projects represent $83 million in orders and will total more than 100 miles of construction, nearly 400 manholes and 260 miles of fiber and copper cabling when complete.
The competitive Fort Sill acquisition was managed by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (USA CECOM) Acquisition Center, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and was competed among several DSSMP prime contract holders. The Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Switched Systems (PM DCASS), in the Army's Program Executive Office, Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS), will provide project implementation oversight.
General Dynamics Network Systems has been designing and building complex telecommunications networks for nearly 50 years.
