Thales Prime Contractor for SELTIC

19 March 2002

The French Procurement Agency (DGA) has awarded Thales Communications a contract for the development and realisation of the SELTIC programme (Key elaboration, transport and management system), worth altogether over 100 million euros.

The SELTIC system will ensure, in the long run, the entire production and end-to-end distribution of ciphering keys securing the French Armed Forces' and governmental authorities' information systems. It will replace the current key transport and distribution means that interface with the Armed Forces' ciphering equipment. SELTIC is fully electronically managed, with standard distribution procedures and equipment. It will fulfil the Armed Forces' requirements in terms of responsiveness and interoperability for the implementation of their crypto networks.

This contract includes development, production and five years of maintenance support. The deployment of SELTIC is scheduled to begin in 2005.

This programme enables Thales to assert its system designer capabilities and to consolidate its activities in the area of information systems security. Thales will conduct this programme in collaboration with Sagem, in the framework of a co-contract led by Thales.

Designer, prime contractor and integrator of systems and provider of value-added services, Thales Communications is the global architect of information and communication systems that fulfil the operational requirements of air forces, armies, and navies. Present in 14 countries, Thales Communications achieves a turnover of about 1.5 billion euros and employs 9000 persons worldwide.
