ATK Awarded $30 Million Contract to Produce Hydra-70 Rocket Propellant

ATK (Alliant Techsystems) (NYSE: ATK) has been awarded a $30 million contract from General Dynamics Ordnance Systems to produce propellant used in MK90 motors for the HYDRA-70 rocket system.

ATK Ammunition and Powder will produce the propellant at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, Va., which it operates for the U.S. Army. The company has produced the propellant there since 1985.

The HYDRA-70 system comprises a family of 2.75-inch unguided rockets, and is the most widely used helicopter weapon system in the world today. The rockets are fired from a number of rotary and fixed-wing platforms, including the U.S. Army Apache and U.S. Marine Corps Cobra helicopters, the U.S. Air Force F-16 Falcon fighter, and the combat aircraft of over 15 nations throughout the world.
