Third Army Theater Command to Use Lockheed Martin's Global Command and Control System-Army as C2 "System Of Record"
GAITHERSBURG, MD, February 28th, 2002 -- Lockheed Martin's Global Command and Control System-Army (GCCS-A) has been implemented as the command and control (C2) system of record for U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR). "GCCS-A Delivery 3 provides the biggest advance and gives the greatest C2 capability enhancement that we have experienced in years. USAREUR has over 150 GCCS-A clients in eight countries. It is integral to our operation," said LTC Michael E. Pigott, Chief, Information Management Division, ODCSOPS, USAREUR.
The GCCS-A is being used as the premier strategic and theater C2 system for Army forces in Europe, following continuous evaluation by Army Test and Evaluation Command. The system provides warfighters with capabilities to rapidly and reliably exchange data and information. GCCS-A is fielded in eight European countries and at 58 locations.
GCCS-A is also system of record for U.S. Army Forces in Korea and U.S. Army Pacific in Hawaii. The system provides strategic commanders readiness and planning information, and gives them capability for mobilization and deployment.
For theater commanders, GCCS-A provides a common operational picture of the battlespace, status information about friendly and enemy forces, and tools to do force employment. The system is interoperable with Joint and Coalition systems, and tactical Army Battle Command Systems. GCCS-A supports Army units from commander-in-chiefs through the Army component of a Joint task force.
"GCCS-A brings 'best of breed' functionality from legacy Army systems, and through new applications and tools we integrate into the system, it will meet the Army evolving mission requirements," said Terry Drabant, President, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems.
GCCS-A is being implemented in incremental stages at Army operations worldwide, with each software delivery incorporating new functionality. In addition to the Europe theater forces, GCCS-A is the "go to war" C2 system of record for U.S. Army Pacific Command and the Combined Forces Command, Korea. Lockheed Martin is now upgrading the Korea system with new capability.
