Rockville, Maryland -- BAE Systems has been awarded a five-year, $15.3 million contract from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), Rhode Island. Under this contract BAE Systems Applied Technologies, part of BAE Systems North America, will provide the engineering and technical services support and material to operate and maintain NUWCDIVNPT's Propulsion Test Facility.
The Propulsion Test Facility provides NUWCDIVNPT with the capability to perform exploratory development, proof of concept experiments, and test and evaluation of undersea propulsion systems and associated components. This world-class facility, comprised of seventeen buildings, consists of test cells, high-energy test chambers, laboratories, and specialised test facilities and equipment required to perform the required test hardware build-up, unit testing, and data reduction and analysis.
To support this effort, BAE Systems will conduct test operations and provide facility/system maintenance. Concurrently, BAE Systems' engineers, scientists, and technicians will upgrade and modify the facility and its systems to maintain state-of-the-art capability and to support new and emergent technologies. Logistic support will also be provided and will include the procurement and responsible control of all tools, spare parts, consumables and equipment required to support test operations, maintenance and facility upgrades.
Work is expected to be completed by January 2007, and will be performed primarily by BAE Systems Applied Technologies personnel at the BAE Systems Northeast Operations, located in Middletown, R.I..
"This award allows us to continue our long history of providing engineering and technical services in support of naval undersea warfare," said Bruce Hamilton, President, BAE Systems Applied Technologies. "We have supported the NUWCDIVNPT Weapon Systems Directorate on vital undersea vehicle programs for more than 25 years and look forward to continuing to provide quality products and services during the life of the important, multiyear contract."
