BAE SYSTEMS awarded laser warning contract

08 Feb 2002

BAE Systems Integrated Defense Solutions has received a $3.5 million contract from ATK Integrated Defense Company, Clearwater, Florida, for production of an integrated laser warning receiver. This contract is for deliveries of laser warning electronics to be integrated into the AN/AAR-47(V)2 Missile Warning Receiver produced by ATK Integrated Defense Company.

The AN/AAR-47(V)2 is the standard missile and laser warning sensor system for more than 3,000 U.S. Navy and Air Force helicopters and transport aircraft. It is the only common housing, fully integrated missile and laser warning system on the market today. BAE Systems laser warning receiver integrates world-class sensor performance into the existing hardware of ATK's much-improved missile warning sensor. Laser warning technology alerts aircrews that laser aided or guided threats are present, allowing time for appropriate counter action.

"As a world leader in fielded laser warning systems, we are extremely pleased to be on the ATK team," says Evan Corwin, BAE Systems laser warning program manager. "We look forward to providing this important upgrade in defensive capability to Navy and Air Force electronic sensor systems."

Integrated Defense Solutions president, Bob Swanson, says "The BAE Systems solution provides the warfighter unparalleled situational awareness of laser-based threats at the lowest weight, power, and unit cost in the industry.""

The laser warning receivers are produced in Austin, Texas and assembled into the sensors by ATK Integrated Defense Company. This continues BAE Systems 15 year heritage of tactical laser warning receivers including commercial, advanced development, and military systems.
