General Dynamics Forms Eagle Enterprise Inc.

New Company to Lead Competition for Army’s Future Combat Systems

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) has established Eagle Enterprise Inc. under its Combat Systems group to lead the competition for the U.S Army’s Future Combat Systems contract. Future Combat Systems will be the core of the Army’s next-generation warfighting force.

Eagle Enterprise is responsible for the design, development and transition to production of network-centric combat systems and architectures. It will be the General Dynamics Lead Systems Integrator for Future Combat Systems, and will pursue various advanced technologies required to support that program. Eagle Enterprise will be located in the Washington, D.C., area to promote a seamless interface with the Army.

"To meet the challenge of the Future Combat Systems program, we’re bringing our best resources together and putting them to work in a completely cooperative environment with the Army and Defense Advance Research Projects Agency," said Arthur J. Veitch, General Dynamics senior vice president-Combat Systems group. "The single focus of Eagle Enterprise will be to support the Army in its drive to field a new, lighter, networked combat force by 2010."

Eagle Enterprise Inc. will report directly to Veitch at General Dynamics’ corporate headquarters. Michael D. Bolon, who had been vice president of engineering design and development at General Dynamics Land Systems, has been named president of Eagle Enterprise. Bolon has 33 years of experience with General Dynamics and Chrysler Defense, developing large-scale combat systems and communications networks. He has held senior leadership roles in the design and development of the Army’s Interim Armored Vehicle and the Marine Corps’ Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV). As leader of the AAAV program, Bolon implemented an innovative Integrated Process and Product Development organization that received the Department of Defense David E. Packard award for acquisition excellence.

"There will be no higher priority within General Dynamics than to insure that the Army achieve its objectives for the Future Combat Systems," said Veitch. "The direct reporting of Eagle Enterprise into our headquarters recognizes the importance of this program to our customer and will efficiently focus the efforts of General Dynamics Combat Systems and Information Systems and Technology groups. These capabilities combined with the excellent industry team of Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, United Defense and ITT will assure that the U.S. Army retains land force dominance in fighting and winning the nation’s wars."

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs 52,000 people worldwide and anticipates 2001 sales of approximately $12 billion. The company has leading market positions in land and amphibious combat systems, information systems, shipbuilding and marine systems, and business aviation.
