General Dynamics Leads Team to Compete for Army's Future Combat Systems

Team Includes Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, United Defense, and ITT

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) will lead a team that combines the strengths of Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC), Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), United Defense Industries (NYSE: UDI) and ITT Industries (NYSE: ITT) to compete for the lead systems integration role on the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems. The Future Combat Systems program will be the core of the Army’s next-generation warfighting force.

"This is a strong and innovative team, and it has the concept, the technologies, and the talent to deliver Future Combat Systems to the Army in 2010 – without a pause, right on schedule," said General Dynamics chairman and CEO Nicholas D. Chabraja. "The team is already operating in the lead systems integrator model, and we’ve merged two independent approaches to Future Combat Systems into a coherent concept. It’s achievable and affordable within the decade.

"Northrop Grumman brings formidable expertise in radars, unmanned air vehicles, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance," said Chabraja. "Raytheon is applying its unparalleled experience in modeling and simulation, missiles, non-lethal effects and sensors. United Defense is responsible for ground platforms, survivability, guns and life cycle support. ITT is focusing on communications and networking.

"We will design Future Combat Systems enabling the Army to employ lighter, more mobile and survivable forces that can fight and win. We know how to manage risk – and we will help the Army to truly transform warfighting at an affordable cost," Chabraja said.

"Future Combat Systems will have the full support of General Dynamics, including its Information Systems and Technology group and its Combat Systems group," Chabraja said. "This provides broad expertise in C4ISR [command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance] and open architecture networks, as well as robotics, complex large-scale systems and software integration. In addition, General Dynamics will provide seasoned program management and integration of the ‘system of systems.’

"We understand what the Army is seeking," said Chabraja. "We have assembled a world-class team to make Future Combat Systems a reality in this decade."
