ATK Awarded Contracts Worth $6 Million to Produce Military Illumination Devices
Jan 17, 2002
ATK (Alliant Techsystems)(NYSE: ATK) has been awarded two contracts with a combined value of $6 million from the U.S. Air Force's Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah, to produce LUU-19 near-infrared illumination devices.
Work under the contracts will be conducted by ATK Thiokol Propulsion, Promontory, Utah, a leading producer of illuminating and infrared illumination devices.
Used for covert target illumination and search and rescue missions, the LUU-19 infrared device enhances the performance of night vision equipment significantly. It uses an illuminant composition developed for the military and patented by ATK Thiokol Propulsion in 1995, which produces low-visible light while emitting energy in the infrared spectrum. During its six minutes of operation, the near-infrared illumination energy covers an area of about 7,800 feet in diameter.
ATK is a $2 billion aerospace and defense company with leading positions in propulsion, composite structures, munitions, and precision capabilities. The company, which is headquartered in Edina, Minn., employs approximately 11,000 people and has two business groups: Aerospace and Defense.
