EADS CASA signs a contract with Mexico for the FITS mission system

EADS CASA has recently signed a contract with Mexico's Secretary of the Navy for the acquisition of the CASA FITS (Fully Integrated Tactical System) mission system to be installed in the Mexican fleet of CASA C-212 aircraft.

The contract, that also includes maintenance, repair, modernization, and provides for the creation of a mission support center, is initially for two of the eight C-212 aircraft operated by the Mexican Navy.

The installation of the FITS, as well as the rest of modifications required, will begin in Spain with the collaboration of on-site based Mexican Navy personnel. Later on, the contract will be extended to the six remaining aircraft and be carried out at the Bajadas Air Base in Veracruz, Mexico, directed by the Mexican personnel previously stationed in Spain.

These aircraft will be devoted to the control of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), participate in the fight against drug trafficking, and support Navy fleet deployments. The modifications of the CASA C-212 will improve its characteristics substantially, allowing among others, mission times of over 10 hours and the tracking of multiple targets.
