Hunter achieves authorised maintenance organisation status
29 Nov 2001
HUNTER Aerospace, a fully owned subsidiary of leading defence and aerospace company BAE Systems, is the first Defence industry organisation to achieve Authorised Maintenance Organisation (AMO) certification for Australian Army aircraft.
HUNTER Aerospace has achieved Australian Defence Force (ADF) AMO status for Iroquois UH-1H helicopter deeper maintenance at its Archerfield airport facility in Queensland.
The Commander Army Aviation Systems Program Office (SPO), Colonel John Cameron, presented the certification to HUNTER Aerospace at a ceremony in Archerfield. Other executives from the Army Aviation SPO included Wing Commander Dean Overend, Commanding Officer Material Management Unit and Lt Col Andrew Barton, Chief Engineer.
The AMO certification is a new ADF aviation certification requirement applicable to both Defence Units/Squadrons and industry.
The certification signifies that the HUNTER Aerospace maintenance management system satisfies the stringent requirements of the ADF's new technical airworthiness regulations.
According to Fred Eske, Commercial Director, "HUNTER Aerospace is the first Defence industry aircraft maintenance organisation to achieve AMO certification for Australian Army aircraft."
"AMO certification recognises the high standards of quality aircraft maintenance service and support demanded by and provided to the ADF. There is now a clear set of rules for doing aircraft maintenance business with Defence," he said.
To achieve the certification, HUNTER Aerospace expanded and updated its Defence Accredited Supplier and third party certified ISO 9001 quality systems and processes to encompass the new regulations.
These regulations are in line with the requirements of Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for which HUNTER Aerospace already holds a Certificate of Approval. The Director General of Technical Airworthiness conducted the compliance audits.
