INTRO: Pakistani officials say they cannot confirm reports a U-S

aircraft crashed inside Pakistani territory, earlier this week. V-O-A's

Jim Teeple reports from Islamabad.

TEXT: News agencies reported early Tuesday that a U-S aircraft of

some kind -- either a helicopter or a plane -- had been downed inside Pakistan's

Baluchistan Province.

The reports said the craft went down in Chaghi District -- about 30

kilometers south of the Afghan border -- and that four U-S military

personnel were killed in the incident.

Speaking at a foreign ministry briefing late in the day, Pakistan's

presidential spokesman, Major General Rashid Qureshi, said he could not

confirm the reports.

// QURESHI ACTUALITY //

There is no confirmation of any such incident so far.

// END ACTUALITY //

Earlier Tuesday, a U-S Embassy spokesman declined to comment on the

matter, saying the U-S embassy does not comment on the military campaign

against terrorist and military targets inside Afghanistan. (Signed)
