ATK Awarded $4 Million Contract to Continue Production of Sensor For Air-Delivered Ordnance

Oct 15, 2001

ATK (Alliant Techsystems) (NYSE: ATK) said it has been awarded a $4 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to continue production of the DSU-33B/B proximity sensor for use in the Joint Direct Attack Munition and other air-delivered ordnance.

The DSU-33B/B is an all-weather, battery-operated proximity sensor that initiates detonation above the ground, increasing the effectiveness of air-delivered ordnance. The sensor design allows tactical fighter aircraft flown by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and allied forces to deliver ordnance from both low and high altitudes.

The contract is an option to a basic $9.5 million production contract awarded in 1998. If all options are exercised, the total program value will be approximately $30 million by the end of 2003.

ATK is a $1.6 billion aerospace and defense company with leading positions in propulsion, composite structures, munitions, and precision capabilities. The company, which is headquartered in Edina, Minn., employs approximately 9,600 people and has two business segments: Aerospace and Defense.
