General Dynamics Awarded Six Contracts with $107.2 Million Potential Value

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) announced today that the company was awarded six Department of Defense contracts between September 25 and September 28, the end of Fiscal Year 2001; their total potential value if all options are exercised exceeds $107.2 million. Contracts were awarded to the company’s Communication Systems, Electronic Systems, Land Systems and Network Systems business units. All contracts were previously announced by the Department of Defense.

General Dynamics Communication Systems, Taunton, Mass., was awarded two contracts. The first, awarded September 25 by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, is a $6,139,754 modification to its Common Hardware/Software 2 (CHS-2) contract for hardware and software items for the Project Manager Army Tactical Command and Control Systems. The second, awarded Sept. 28 by the Marine Corps Systems Command, is for digital tactical data networking equipment and is valued at up to $9,592,793.

General Dynamics Electronic Systems, Mountain View, Calif., was awarded a contract on Sept. 25, valued at $9,566,028, for services in support of the formulation and analysis of joint operational concepts for the U.S. Joint Forces Command’s Joint Experimental Directorate.

General Dynamics Land Systems, Sterling Heights, Mich., on Sept. 25 was awarded a $500,000 increment of a $23,051,717 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for four years of research and development of a Vetronics Technology Integration effort. This project will integrate technologies into C-130 transportable vehicle platforms and support demonstrations of these systems during field tests. These platforms will be used for advanced technology demonstrations of the Crew Integration and Automation Testbed (CAT - Manned Lead Vehicle) and the Robotic Follower (RF - Unmanned) Programs as a step toward possible transition to the Future Combat System. Work will be performed in Westminster, Md. (55.89%), and Sterling Heights, Mich. (44.11%).

Land Systems also received an award on Sept. 27, valued at $21,851,900, for systems technical support for the Abrams Tank Program. The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command, Warren, Mich., is the contracting activity for both Land Systems’ contracts.

Finally, on Sept. 28, General Dynamics Network Systems, Needham Heights, Mass., was one of five companies to receive contracts for engineering, technical, logistic and program management services from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division, Port Hueneme, Calif. The contract’s initial value is $7,179,846, with options that could bring the total contract value to $37,304,153.
