Affected Pentagon Offices Moving to Leased Space

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20, 2001 -- About 2,300 people whose offices were affected by the attack on the Pentagon Sept. 11 will move into leased space near the building.
Many workers are currently "hot-bunking" in other offices - - using any open work space they can find. DoD officials assure that the mission will continue to be accomplished as the moves proceed.
U.S. General Services Administration officials said the affected offices are moving to Crystal City, a business district of Arlington, Va. GSA has leased about 849,000 square feet of space in the area.
Because employees need everything, not just office space, GSA also is supplying desks, chairs, information technology, fax machines, copiers and even paper clips, officials said. The Federal Telecommunications Service is setting up a communications network for the offices.
"All GSA resources are at the disposal of DoD's Washington Headquarters Services," a GSA official said. "They have an important mission to perform; we're going to help them do it."
GSA already has a plan to repaint and recarpet the interim offices. Officials are also planning on getting "system furniture" for the space.
