TITLE=PAKISTAN / U-S ATTACKS (S)
INTRO: Pakistan is promising the United States full cooperation in the
fight against terror. From Islamabad, Ayaz Gul reports.
TEXT: Military leader General Pervez Musharraf uses a statement to say he
assured President Bush and his government of Pakistan's "unstinted"
cooperation. He says the carnage in New York and Washington has raised
anti-terrorism struggle to a new level. Rashid Qureshi is the Pakistani Government's main spokesman.
Pakistan has been extending cooperation to international efforts to
combat terrorism in the past and will continue to do so. All countries must
join hands in this common cause.
Pakistan is the main supporter of the Taleban in Afghanistan, where the
prime suspect of the terrorist strikes, Osama bin Laden, lives as a
"guest" of the ruling Islamic movement.
Meanwhile, the U-S ambassador to Pakistan has met General Musharraf, on
instructions from Washington, which has been seeking fullest cooperation
in gathering information about the attacks on U-S buildings. Officials have
refused to comment on what was discussed in the meeting. (SIGNED)
