Landing craft heavy contract awarded to BAE SYSTEMS
06 Aug 2001
BAE Systems has been selected to provide in-service support to the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) in Cairns and Darwin.
The A$1.5 million contract with the Defence Material Organisation involves the provision of contract management, configuration management, systems engineering and maintenance engineering for the RAN's fleet of LCH. The contract is for an initial period of three years, with two options for three-year extensions.
BAE Systems will ensure the LCH vessels meet specified performance parameters, maintain their class certification and are capable of performing the operations required by the RAN through the employment of local small to medium enterprises in Darwin and northern Queensland.
"BAE Systems is excited by the opportunity to establish a presence in northern Queensland," said Harry Bradford, managing director - customer solutions and support division, BAE Systems.
"The win is a further stepping stone in the company's maritime support strategy."
BAE Systems will set up a LCH management support office in Cairns.
