Thales to conduct major naval communications programme in United Arab Emirates
24 July 2001
Thales has been retained by the United Arab Emirates for its entire naval communications programme, which involves the procurement of latest-generation communications systems for all the Navy's surface ships. The systems will rely on secure multi-service networks supporting the whole range of shipboard communications and providing access to external HF and V/UHF transmissions.
This latest success follows recent contract awards for the UK Royal Navy's T45 frigates and the communication systems component of the Franco-Italian Horizon frigate programme.
Thales' naval businesses meet the full range of surveillance, communications, combat management and electronic warfare requirements for all types of naval combat mission. Naval communication systems from Thales are in service with more than 40 naval forces around the world.
This new programme is a further sign of the exemplary cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Thales. For more than 30 years, the Group has enjoyed excellent relations with the Emirates, and is currently developing extensive training programmes for Emirati personnel in a number of high-technology areas.
