BAE SYSTEMS welcomes Bowman decision
19 Jul 2001
BAE Systems today welcomed the UK Ministry of Defence selection of CDC Systems UK as prime contractor for the BOWMAN military communications programme.
BAE Systems decided not to bid as prime contractor for the BOWMAN competition but offered sub-systems on the bids of each of the three competitors.
Within the winning proposal from CDC, BAE Systems will provide its Communications Management Information System (CMIS) as the BOWMAN Communications Management System (BCMS); supply the BOWMAN Logistic Information System (BLIS); and will also be responsible for the Land Systems Reference Centre (LSRC) BOWMAN Modelling Facility.
The CMIS Battlefield Information Systems Application (BISA) is an innovative, integrated tactical communications management product designed specifically for the digitised battlespace. CMIS was developed by a Filton-based team of the Communications & Defence Infrastructure (CDI) Division of BAE Systems Avionics with close support from the BOWMAN Digitisation Military Team (BDMT) during the earlier phases of BOWMAN.
As a fully mature communications management product, CMIS is also being offered to export customers for whom it will provide a world-class means to manage tactical wireless networks in complex operational situations.
The BLIS features asset tracking, configuration management, maintenance, reordering and usage information applications. It encompasses both front-line repair activities and the industrial repair organisations, including return-to-field operations, bringing together business processes for front-line maintenance and repair, industrial repair processes and re-supply chains. Developed by Harefield-based BAE Systems-IFS, BLIS benefits from an intuitive man-machine interface combined with minimised reliance on BOWMAN bandwidth and low through-life system costs.
The Filton-based team developing the LSRC BOWMAN Modelling Facility is building on its innovative modelling solution currently in use at the LSRC, exploiting its many years of experience of modelling military communications and CCIS systems. Its Ptarmigan Modelling Facility is currently being used by the Army to plan the major exercise Saif Sareea later this year. The team is also the Modelling Design Authority and supplier of the core testing applications for the LSRC.
