General Dynamics Awarded $92 Million Abrams/Crusader Common Engine Integration Contract

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The United States Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $92 million Abrams/Crusader Common Engine (ACCE) integration contract.

Under the contract, General Dynamics will develop hardware and software to enable the integration of the ACCE engine and adapter kit into the Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Package (SEP) and M1A1 Abrams Integrated Management (AIM) tanks.

The contract calls for the build and delivery of nine prototype tanks (four M1A2 SEP tanks and five M1A1 AIM tanks) and one new M1A2 SEP Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) by December 2004. It also includes funding for training and testing. Approximately 50 new employees will be hired as a result of this program at Land Systems’ Sterling Heights, Michigan, complex.
