General Dynamics Awarded Additional $16 Million For Overseas Navy Marine Corps Intranet Contract
NEEDHAM, Mass. – General Dynamics Worldwide Telecommunication Systems has been awarded an additional $16 million in options to the $102 million overseas Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) program, also known as the Base Level Information Infrastructure Outside the Continental United States (BLII OCONUS). This brings the total value of the assignment to $118 million. General Dynamics Worldwide Telecommunication Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
First announced in May, the overseas NMCI is expected to be completed by October 2003. General Dynamics will upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure at Navy installations in Europe, the Far East and the Middle East, using an architecture that is compliant with the domestic Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI).
This latest option will enhance the network management capabilities of the telecommunications infrastructures in the Middle East and locations in the Far East. With this option, General Dynamics will implement server farms in all regions, and provide network and element management for Bahrain and the Far East, as well as enterprise management for the Far East.
"General Dynamics is a strong proponent of the Navy’s vision of a global enterprise network," said Dan Allen, a vice president and general manager for General Dynamics Worldwide Telecommunication Systems. "The Navy’s ability to exercise these options will enhance the overall capabilities of the Enterprise and provide interoperability with NMCI CONUS systems."
