PARIS AIR SHOW JUNE 20, 2001 -- Pratt & Whitney (P&W) is working with a team of international aerospace suppliers in support of the P&W-powered F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

International suppliers on the P&W propulsion team include Rolls Royce and Callender from the United Kingdom, six suppliers from the Netherlands - Eldim B.V., Fokker Elmo B. V., Hamilton Sundstrand Customer Support Center/Maastricht B.V., Nederlands Centrum voor Laser Research, Urenco Nederland B.V., and Stork N.V. - and other partner firms.

"Having U.S. and European collaboration early on in the JSF119 engine development program assures that all partner nations get the most capable product at the most affordable price," said Walter Bylciw, Executive Vice President, Military Engines, Pratt & Whitney. "Pratt & Whitney already has individual agreements with many of these companies related to specific JSF119 work, and we mutually agreed to take a team approach to assure success of the program. We will work with our international partners to share information, coordinate our communication and marketing efforts, and be attuned to issues that affect our aerospace industry as a whole."

"Participation in new engine programs is key to developing and strengthening a long lasting relationship," said Ger de Vlieger, Vice-President and General Manager, Eldim B.V. "Our 25 years partnership with Pratt & Whitney, combined with a proactive technology development, has created this new opportunity for yet another 25 years."

"This is a major step in the further business development of Urenco Aerospace and undoubtedly marks the beginning of a long and fruitful cooperation with Pratt & Whitney," said Dick Alta, General Manager, Urenco Aerospace.

In discussing the advantages the JSF program offers to the international community, Bylciw said, "Not only does JSF present great opportunities for industrial cooperation; it has the advantage of being an extremely capable and low cost aircraft. It is the best way to satisfy the needs of both the U.S. and our allies for an interoperable strike aircraft."

P&W’s JSF119 engine was selected by both JSF weapons system contractors, Boeing and Lockheed Martin, to power their competing aircraft designs. The engine, a derivative of the F119 engine powering the F/A-22 Raptor, has powered more than 185 flights over all JSF candidate aircraft variants. It is expected that more than 6,000 JSF aircraft will be produced over the life of the program.

Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Company (NYSE:UTX), is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems, and industrial gas turbines.
