Israel Aircraft Industries' Pilot Selection System Supplied to Turkish Army Aviation
Jun 18, 2001
Paris Air Show, June 2001 - The Lahav Division of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI/Lahav) has recently supplied its Pilot Selection System (PSS) to the Republic of Turkey's Ministry of National Defense for the Turkish Armed Forces Army Aviation.
IAI/Lahav won the tender following competition with five other companies.
IAI/Lahav's PSS includes five Test Stations (simulated cockpits) connected to a central Instructor Station. The PSS administers examinations to pilot training candidates for both fixed and rotary wing aircraft and allows the Instructor to manage and communicate with all Test Stations simultaneously.
IAI/Lahav has been producing pilot evaluation systems for the last two decades and has accumulated extensive experience in the screening and placement of pilot training candidates.
IAI/Lahav's PSS replaces existing pilot screening methods with a scientifically based quantitative system. By subjecting potential pilots to intense workloads that replicate the demands placed on today's military pilots and measuring their sensorimotoric and cognitive skills, the PSS is able to provide an accurate indication of a candidate's suitability to undergo flight training.
Turkish personnel received training at IAI's facility at Ben-Gurion Airport in Lod, Israel and the system was delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces in May 2001.
