15 June 2001

The radio relays are designed to equip the French Army’s tactical. The French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) has awarded Thales Communications a contract worth around 79 million euros to build the new generation of radio relays, the Future Radio Relay Chain. The radio relays are designed to equip the French Army's tactical networks, beginning with the future tactical area network Enhanced RITA.

The contract provides for the supply of several hundred radio relays. They offer real progress in terms of automation (masts and pointers) and performance, and offer unrivalled services in data rate and radio range: 50 km range in band IV (5 GHz) and 34 Mbps data rate in band V (15GHz).The award of this contract, won against European competition, opens up exciting prospects for the new TRC 4000 high rate radio relay jointly developed by the Swiss company Thales Communications A.G. – specialised in radio relays – and by Thales Communications SA. This contract confirms the success of Thales’ multi-domestic policy, which reinforces the company’s competitiveness and growth, including in the field of defence communications.
