Thomson-CSF acquires electro-optics business unitof AlliedSignal Aerospatiale Canada

Thomson-CSF Optrosys, the Thomson-CSF business group incorporating all the optronics systems and optronics equipment, has just acquired the electro-optics business unit of AlliedSignal Aerospatiale Canada Inc. (ASACa), a subsidiary of AlliedSignal of the USA.

This business unit, now named Thomson-CSF Optronique Canada Inc. (TCOC), is based at Montreal. The company is a 100 % subsidiary of Thomson-CSF Systems Canada Inc. (TCSC) of Nepean, Ontario.

Thomson-CSF Optronique Canada Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, delivers night vision equipment and specialises in thermal imager technology. The 1998 TCOC revenue was $ 21.4 million Canadian (14 million euros).

Thomson-CSF Optronique Canada Inc. will continue to support the existing customer base as well as increase Thomson-CSF Optrosys’ business in Canada. Mr. Norman R.A. Smyth, President of Thomson-CSF Systems Canada, will also be the President of the new company and Mr. Karl Enners, the electro-optic product line manager under AlliedSignal ownership, will be the General Manager.

At the signature of the purchase agreement at Montreal, Mr. Bernard Rocquemont, Senior Vice-President of Thomson-CSF and Group Executive of Thomson-CSF Optrosys, declared " TCOC will continue its business activity as a Canadian company, serving its primary customer, the Canadian government, while being integrated into the Optrosys strategy which is to develop the optronics activity worldwide ".

Thomson-CSF Optrosys produces optronics components, equipment and systems for airborne, naval and land applications. With a revenue of $610 million CDN (400 million euros), Thomson-CSF Optrosys is the world’s third largest optronics company and the largest in Europe with major facilities in France, U.K. and the Netherlands.
