Lockheed Martin Announces Major Expansion of Camden, Arkansas, Production Operation

CAMDEN, AR, March 15th, 2001 -- Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control today announced a major expansion of its Camden, Ark., production facility. The expansion will allow Lockheed Martin to bring more than 200 new high-paying jobs to the area. A partnership with the State of Arkansas will allow Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control to execute the facility expansion, adding approximately 40,000 square feet of production, administrative and warehouse space. The new facilities will include world-class automated production and assembly equipment, and be located nearby the existing Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) production plant.

With a financial commitment from Lockheed Martin of more than $5 million towards the expansion, the Camden facility will be well-positioned for new high-technology production over the next 10 years.

"Our relationship with the State of Arkansas is extremely important to this business," said James (Jim) F. Berry, president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "This partnership with the State will allow us to begin the process of growing our Camden facility, ensuring hundreds of high-paying jobs and continuing to support south Arkansas' economy development. Plus, it will open up the aperture for us to bring more high-technology systems into Camden for production."

Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee said, "Lockheed Martin is a world-class corporation. Camden was ready, willing and able to meet their high workforce and quality-of- life standards. I congratulate Camden, Lockheed Martin and the Department of Economic Development who worked so hard to make this expansion a reality."

Currently, Camden Operations of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control performs final assembly, test and storage of rockets and missiles including the MLRS Extended-Range (ER) Rocket, the Reduced-Range Practice Rocket (RRPR), and the Guided MLRS Rocket. The plant produces MLRS launchers for the U.S. Army, Army National Guard and several allied armies, and produces the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers for the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps, which designates HIMARS as the Marine Expeditionary Rocket System (MERS).

The plant has produced more than 650,000 rockets and over 1,100 MLRS launchers since production began in the early 1980s. Lockheed Martin utilizes more than 1.5 million square feet of floor space at the Camden facility.

Located in Dallas, Tex.; Orlando, Fla.; and Sunnyvale, Calif., Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control develops, manufactures and supports advanced combat, missile, rocket and space systems. The company is organized in seven program/mission areas: Strike Weapons, Air Defense, Anti-Armor, Naval Munitions, Fire Control and Sensors, Fire Support and Product Development
