
General Dynamics Awarded $31.5 Million Assembly Contract for Abrams Tanks
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The United States Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems a $31.5 million contract modification to assemble 135 sets of material into Abrams Integrated Management for the 21st Century (AIM XXI) tanks.
Work on the firm fixed price contract will be done at the General Dynamics-operated Lima Army Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio (77 percent); and at Land Systems’ Scranton Plant in Eynon, Pennsylvania (20 percent), and Muskegon Plant in Muskegon, Michigan (3 percent). The 135 tanks are to be delivered by June 30, 2002.
AIM XXI is a joint effort to refurbish M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks involving the Project Manager Abrams Tank Systems, the United States Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, the Anniston Army Depot in Anniston, Alabama, and General Dynamics Land Systems.
In the AIM XXI program, M1A1 Abrams tanks are completely disassembled and overhauled to a like-new condition.
