BAE SYSTEMS AWARDED CONTRACT OPTION TO BUILD C-130J SIMULATORS FOR U.S. AIR FORCE
BAE Systems today announced Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company of Marietta, Ga., has awarded the company a $13.3 million contract option to design and build two additional C-130J simulators for the U.S. Air Force.
BAE Systems Flight Simulation and Training will manufacture a second C-130J weapon systems trainer (WST) as well as an avionics systems management trainer (ASMT) under the program known as C-130J Maintenance and Aircrew Training System (J-MATS). The second WST and the ASMT will be delivered to Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas beginning in November 2003. BAE Systems is already under contract to build the first USAF C-130J WST, which will be delivered to Keesler AFB in Mississippi in October 2002. This contract option also calls for BAE Systems to provide training support services for training site activation at Keesler AFB.
“With the U.S. government already on contract to receive 49 C-130J aircraft, the training systems we design will play a critical role getting these crews ready for the newest Hercules,” said John Pitts, president, BAE Systems Flight Simulation and Training. “This contract option once again validates our strategy to focus our efforts on being the world leader in training and simulation on the C-130 platform.”
The two C-130J WSTs will be full-motion, full-mission simulators designed to simulate the operational and performance characteristics of the C-130J aircraft. The C-130J ASMT will provide training in the normal control and operation of communication, navigation, identification, flight management, and display systems. The training centers at Keesler AFB and Little Rock AFB will provide both aircrew and maintenance training for active-duty Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve Command personnel.
Notes to Editors:
BAE Systems Flight Simulation and Training is the world’s leading provider of simulation and training solutions for the C-130 aircraft. The unit is Lockheed Martin’s training partner on the C-130J and the two companies have delivered C-130J training programs to the UK Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force. BAE Systems is currently building a C-130J operational flight trainer and C-130J cockpit avionics part task trainer (CAPTT) for Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Italian Air Force) and a KC-130J CAPTT for the U.S. Marine Corps.
In addition, a Lockheed Martin/BAE Systems team is under contract to modify and operate C-130 training for the U.S. Air Force’s existing C-130 aircrew training system. BAE Systems also operates the C-130 Tampa Training Center.
BAE Systems Flight Simulation and Training provides aviation training and simulation solutions. The organization manufactures full flight simulators for civil and military aircraft and offers a range of aviation training and support services.
