ANGOLA: Bomb blamed on Unita

Four people were seriously injured on Friday in northern Angola in a bomb
attack on the eve of the country's 25th anniversary of independence. On
Sunday, police said the bombing was the work of the rebel group UNITA.

The attack occurred around midnight in the provincial capital of Uije, 300
km east of Luanda, AFP reported. Uije province has been the target of a
series of attacks over the past year blamed on UNITA, which has been
fighting the government almost without interruption since independence in
1975.

Angola celebrated its 25th year of independence on Saturday. Before the
celebrations, President Jose Eduardo dos Santos offered a general amnesty to
the rebels. The largest public turnout for Saturday's holiday came in
Luanda's Independence Plaza, where dos Santos unveiled a monument to his
predecessor, Antonio Agostinho Neto.
