DRC: New Goma group a "rival political party"
Victor Ngezayo, the hotel owner and businessman, who has established a new
group in the eastern town of Goma says the movement is not a rebel group,
but a rival political party to the governing Rassemblement congolais pour
la democratie (RCD-Goma). Sources in Goma, who spoke with him, told IRIN
he was "scathing" about the RCD, and was attempting to unite all Congolese
in the Kivus from the Banyamulenge to the Mayi-Mayi. His group, the
Mouvement des patriotes congolais, had renounced armed conflict, he said,
and he was counting on popular support due to his prominent standing in
Goma.
