DRC: Angola to take "decisions" soon

Angolan Chief of Staff General Joao Batista de Matos, who visited the
DRC-government held town of Mbandaka in Equateur province earlier this
week, said his country would soon adopt "important decisions relating to
the return of peace in the DRC". He also told a news conference on his
return to the capital Kinshasa that he believed Mbandaka was not
threatened by the rebel Mouvement de liberation du Congo (MLC), DRC state
television reported. Regarding a perceived rapprochement with Uganda
after his meetings with Ugandan military officials, de Matos was quoted as
saying the talks were part of efforts aimed at restoring peace in the
region.

De Matos also had talks with his DRC counterpart, Lt-Gen Sylvestre
Luetsha, in which he stated his visit was devoted to "strengthening the
ties of friendship" between the two countries. In a joint statement, the
two military chiefs said they were ready to "create the necessary
machinery" for the exchange of military intelligence. Luetsha is to pay a
return visit to Angola on a date yet to be announced.
