SOUTH AFRICA: Suspected bombers arrested
Two men have been arrested in what police have described as a break-through
in the fight against urban terror in the Western Cape. This followed the
discovery of an explosive device outside a cafe in the Cape Town suburb of
Belville early Friday morning.
Zelda Holtzman, acting provincial police commissioner, said the device had
been set to go off at 12 noon, clearly indicating that the public was the
target. The device found is similar to those used in previous attacks.
Holtzman said the discovery of the bomb and the subsequent arrests are the
result of effective police investigation. The police are questioning the two
men, arrested close to where the device was discovered.
