Lockheed Martin Performs Successful Flight Demos for Royal Norwegian Air Force

ORLANDO, FL, November 9th, 2000 -- A Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control LANTIRN (Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night) TV enhanced targeting pod successfully performed twelve flight demonstrations September 11-22, for the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) at Orland Main Air Base, Norway. These flights were completed with 100% mission success, with four sorties delivering GBU-12s, two with autonomous operations and two utilizing "buddy" lasing operation. This TV enhanced LANTIRN targeting pod is part of F-16 Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) laser designator pod program and contains a multi-spectral sensor, CCD TV, and long wave FLIR to support precision delivery of air-to-ground weapons. The flight demonstrations covered a comprehensive range of mission profiles including air-to-ground tracking and air-to-air tracking. Major General Rolland, RNoAF Air Combat Command; Brigadier Harildstad, RNoAF Inspector of Flying and representatives from the RNoA staff, and Artillery Inspectorate attended the demonstrations.

"With the outstanding performance at this demonstration, LANTIRN will further enhance its position as the targeting system of choice for our European customers," said Ron Rodenroth, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control's LANTIRN International Business Development Manager. This pod configuration has already been procured by the Netherlands, Denmark, and Belgium.

LANTIRN allows aircrews to operate worldwide in daylight or darkness at all mission altitudes up to 40,000 feet to meet the requirements for precision attack of surface targets. As the backbone of precision attack, LANTIRN is a combat-proven force multiplier in both the Gulf War and the Kosovo conflict that provides a spectrum of capabilities to the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, and the air forces of twelve allied nations.

Located in Dallas, Tx. and Orlando, Fla., Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, a world leader in electro-optics, smart munitions, advanced combat, missile, rocket and space systems, is an operating element of Lockheed Martin Systems Integration business unit based in Bethesda, Maryland.
