INTRO: Relatives of those missing or detained in violent demonstrations in Ivory Coast last week are demanding an explanation on the fate of their loved ones. V-O-A's Luis Ramirez reports from the country's main city, Abidjan.

TEXT: Relatives have been gathering outside police and military camps, waiting for word on the hundreds of people who were detained or who have simply not been accounted for following what many are calling the worst violence in the West African country's history.

More than 100 people were killed in street clashes and many more remain missing, following several days of demonstrations.

The protests led to the ouster of military ruler General Robert Guei. After the general's departure, new protests broke out among supporters of opposition leader Alassane Ouattara, who demanded new elections since their candidate was excluded from the October 22nd presidential race.

Ivory Coast's new civilian government says it is willing to let an international team investigate the killing of at least 57 young men whose bodies were found in a mass grave late last week. (SIGNED)
