UN envoy wraps up round of "useful" meetings in Cyprus
27 October -- Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Special Advisor on Cyprus has completed a series of meetings on the island in preparation for the next round of proximity talks.

Speaking to reporters today in Nicosia after wrapping up a five-day visit to Cyprus, Special Advisor Alvaro de Soto characterized his discussions as "useful."

While on the island, Mr. de Soto held two rounds of separate meetings with Mr. Glafcos Clerides and Mr. Rauf Denktash. He also met with the leaders of the major political parties from both sides.

The next session of proximity talks is set to begin in Geneva on 1 November.
