UN food agency to provide emergency rations in Palestinian Territory
24 October -- The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced a new emergency food distribution programme to help Palestinians affected by the closure of entry points into Israel.

Under the programme, WFP will provide emergency food rations to about 4,900 families whose members have been unable to work due to the closures.

"We hope that this new distribution helps families in their time of need," Felix Bamezon, the Deputy Director of WFP's New York office, told the UN News Service.

The emergency distribution, which comes in response to a request from the Palestinian Ministry of Social Affairs, is expected to reach close to 30,000 people.

The new effort comes on top of WFP's ongoing food distribution programmes in the Palestinian Territory. According to the agency, these programmes aim to "reach 104,000 people who are unable to subsist in the context of the prevailing unstable economic and political environment."
