VOICE AT:

INTRO: Tensions are high in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as Palestinians prepare to bury four more victims of the latest clashes with Israeli troops. Shoshana London Sappir reports both Israelis and Palestinians are looking to the meeting of Arab leaders in Cairo that concludes today.

TEXT: Israelis and Palestinians are closely watching the Arab summit that has denounced Israeli

violence but has so far stopped short of calling for extreme actions against the Jewish state. Mass Palestinian

demonstrations Saturday that called on the Arab nations to support their struggle against Israel are likely to

continue Sunday, as the Cairo summit concludes.

Thousands of people are expected in the streets in the West Bank and Gaza strip for the funerals of four Palestinians killed during Saturday clashes with Israeli troops.

In Israel, demonstrations were held on Saturday night, both for and against continuing the peace process with the

Palestinians. Jewish settlers who live in Israeli-controlled enclaves in the Palestinian areas called on Prime Minister

Ehud Barak to use more force to put down Palestinian riots and call off negotiations. Another group of Israelis voiced

the opposite message, urging their prime minister to pursue a peaceful resolution to the conflict. (SIGNED)
