INTRO: Leaders at the Middle East summit in Egypt have ended 18 hours of non-stop meetings, saying they will continue efforts Tuesday to end weeks of violence between Palestinians and Israelis. Correspondent Scott Bobb reports from the Egyptian resort that in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday, President Clinton held a fourth meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, trying to bridge the differences.

TEXT: Sources say the early morning meetings have focused primarily on security arrangements, which the leaders say are needed to end the violence.

In addition to his sessions with Prime Minister Barak, President Clinton met three times with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Sources say these latest talks have gotten to basic issues, although many differences remain. A major difference is said to be over the composition of a commission to investigate the clashes.

The delegations have been meeting virtually non-stop since Monday morning, when Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak opened the summit, warning the violence that has killed more than 100 people could spread across the region.

Protests against the summit were held Monday in the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Iran and the Egyptian capital. (Signed)
