INTRO: The Israeli Defense Ministry confirms that an Israeli reserve officer has been kidnapped. Earlier in the day, the head of the Islamic fundamentalist Hizbollah announced that the group had captured an Israeli colonel. V-O-A's Sonja Pace has been following the story from Jerusalem and has this report.
TEXT: The Defense Ministry gave few details and would only say that an Israeli citizen, an officer in the military reserve, had been kidnapped. The ministry would not say where the kidnapping occurred, but did say the unidentified man had left Israel of his own accord about 10-days ago.
Israeli media report the man was a businessman working in Switzerland.
Earlier Sunday, Hizbollah chief Sheik Hassan Nasrallah announced his group had captured an Israeli colonel during a special security operation. He said the operation was dedicated to the Palestinians and to Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails.
A week ago, Hizbollah captured three Israeli soldiers along the Israeli-Lebanese border area and said it wanted to swap them for Lebanese and other Arab prisoners being held by the Israelis. (SIGNED)
