UN war crimes tribunal for former Yugoslavia welcomes US contribution
11 October -- The International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) today welcomed a $100,000 contribution from the United States to the court's Outreach Programme.

The Outreach Programme aims to strengthen contacts between the Tribunal and communities across the former Yugoslavia. Using primarily languages from the former Yugoslavia, the Programme's staff work out of offices in Banja Luka, Sarajevo and Zagreb. With adequate funding, the Programme hopes to open offices in Belgrade and Pristina next year.

According to the ICTY, the Outreach Programme operates on the understanding that the Tribunal works as an agency of security and reconciliation in South-East Europe in partnership with and for the benefit of citizens in the region to strengthen the rule of law.

The $100,000 contribution from the United States was the second provided to the Outreach Programme by that country, which gave $500,000 in April 1999. Other countries which have provided financial support to the Programme include Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland and the United Kingdom.
