UNICEF is worried about the long-term impact of renewed violence on children's sound development. They are living now in a state of anxiety and fear and we are an advocating institute for children's rights.

UNICEF has offices in Jerusalem and in Ramallah in the West Bank. Ms. Geldof says a task force has been set up to deal with emergency needs. She says the group has asked the United Nations for one-point-six-million U-S dollars in emergency health and relief supplies. In addition, she says UNICEF is providing 21-thousand dollars in medical supplies and transportation to and from clinics. But she says UNICEF's main focus is on helping the children.

Most relevant to the children's situation, psycho-social support in the form of printing up quickly a one-pager for parents, for teachers, for counselors on how to handle children who are traumatized, who are anxious and fearful. We will also be training young people in this.

//End 2d Geldof act.//

Ms. Geldof says UNICEF, for a long time, has been working on a project called "Youth Times." She says this project is directed toward young teenagers and aims to teach them their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. She says the young people have now been given the task of documenting their experiences during the present Israeli-Palestinian confrontation. (Signed)
