Security Council deliberates formal response to Middle East violence
6 October -- The Security Council today continued its closed-door consultations on a draft resolution submitted by members of the Non-Aligned Movement in response to the latest crisis that has rocked the Middle East.
The Council resumed its deliberations after a late night session, which began on Thursday evening and lasted until 3 a.m. on Friday.
Consideration of the draft resolution comes on the heels of the Council's three-day open meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the question of Palestine, which began on Tuesday. Representatives of some 50 countries took part in the debate, many of them decrying the disproportionate use of force and the killing of innocent civilians, and calling for an international investigation into the violence.
