INTRO: More than half a million-opposition supporters in Belgrade have stormed the federal parliament, television tower and other symbols of the Milosevic's regime. President Slobodan Milosevic has yet to appear in public and there is speculation on the ground that he may have fled the country or is hiding inside Serbia. Correspondent Eve Conant who is monitoring events from Pristina says a session of Yugoslavia's new parliament has been called by the man who says he is the new president of Yugoslavia, Vojislav Kostunica.
TEXT: The Serbian State's news agency is referring to Mr. Kostunica as president-elect and the question is just how President Slobodan Milosevic is reacting to the uprising.
Pictures of the Yugoslav leader were ripped from the walls and hundreds of thousands of protestors stormed the federal parliament and television buildings.
Reports said the Yugoslav army remain in their barracks and will not intervene.
Opposition leader Kostunica told the crowd he would ask European leaders to cancel all sanctions against Serbia. He said the state run media would now be open to all political parties and pleaded for the crowds, who are calling for the arrest of Mr. Milosevic, not to damage the city any further.
Mr. Milosevic's party says it will fight back with all means to secure a peaceful life for Yugoslav citizens. But state police and security services, for now, seem to be fighting with the opposition. (Signed)
