U.S. Calls for Release of Foreign Detainees in Yugoslavia
U.S. Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) Vienna
October 5, 2000
STATEMENT ON THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA DETAINEES
DELIVERED BY AMBASSADOR DAVID T. JOHNSON TO THE PERMANENT COUNCIL,
VIENNA
October 5, 2000
Thank you, Madame Chairperson. The United States continues to support
fully your efforts as well as those of the Secretary General and other
OSCE partners around this table, in particular, the European Union, to
win the release of the British, Dutch, and Canadian detainees in the
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Just as we call on the regime to
respect the will of its own people, we also call on it to accept its
international obligations and, as a parting gesture as it exits the
world stage, to release these men now.
Thank you.
