INTRO: Violence is continuing for the fifth day between Israelis and Palestinians. As VOA Correspondent Meredith Buel reports from Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is calling on the Palestinians to stop the rioting and bloodshed that has killed at least 30 people.
TEXT: Police say an Israeli citizen was shot dead in the West Bank Monday by a group of gunmen who opened fire on his car.
Police say the gunmen were apparently Palestinians, but that an investigation is still underway.
Sporadic clashes are also being reported between Palestinian protestors and Israeli security forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is calling on the Palestinians to stop the rioting and gunfire immediately.
Mr. Barak says the Israeli military will use tanks or any other means necessary to end the bloodiest clashes in years.
Both sides are blaming each other for the fighting, which has included major gun battles between Israeli and Palestinian security forces.
The violence began last week when Israeli opposition leader Ariel Sharon visited a sensitive site in Jerusalem's Old City that is holy to Muslims and Jews. (Signed)
