INTRO: At least 26 Palestinians have been wounded in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, during a third day of clashes with Israeli security forces. Ross Dunn reports from Jerusalem that the unrest follows the killing of four Palestinians at a site holy to both Jews and Muslims.

TEXT: Violence is spreading in the occupied territories. Palestinians hurled rocks at Israeli security forces Saturday. Soldiers responded with tear gas and rubber-coated metal bullets.

Some of the worst clashes occurred outside a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank town of Hebron.

The riots follow the killing of four Palestinians by Israeli police Friday, when officers stormed the Haram Sharif Islamic compound in Jerusalem's walled Old City.

The Palestinian Authority has called a day of mourning and a general strike today in memory of those killed.

The Haram Sharif compound is also sacred to Jews as the Temple Mount, the site of their holy temples in biblical times.
