STATEMENT BY PHILIP T. REEKER, DEPUTY SPOKESMAN
ZIMBABWE: SEARCH OF OPPOSITION PARTY OFFICES
The United States is very concerned by events in Zimbabwe which
constitute government harassment of a legitimate opposition political
party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
On September 14th and again on the 15th, law enforcement officials
searched offices of the Movement for Democratic Change, read party
documents and detained party officials.
The United States calls on the Government of Zimbabwe to comply with
the rule of law, to respect the fundamental principles of a multiparty
democracy, and to protect the political and human rights of all
Zimbabwean citizens.
