UN mission in Bosnia condemns bridge blocking by veterans' group
12 September -- The United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) has condemned the blocking of a bridge in Mostar by a veterans' association and called on the group to re-open the link between the two sides of the city.

Speaking to the press in Sarajevo, UNMIBH spokesman Douglas Coffman said the blocking of the Carinski bridge in Mostar by the Bosnian-Croat war veterans' association (HVIDRA) was denying freedom of movement to citizens of that city. He added that the protest, although said to be against high fuel prices, in reality was against yesterday's "lawful and professional anti-terrorism action" taken by the Bosnian Ministry of Interior, in which one person was arrested.

According to UNMIBH, the HVIDRA's activities are undermining the peace process and the establishment of the rule of law.

The UN Mission is also disturbed with the inaction of the West Mostar police who failed to remove the vehicles forming the blockade or take action against the perpetrators. According to the spokesman, it would be "very easy" for the Mostar police to remove the roadblock.
