INTRO: Guinean forces continue to round up Sierra
Leonean and Liberian nationals, following recent
clashes along Guinea's borders with Liberia and Sierra
Leone. V-0-A's Luis Ramirez reports from our West
Africa bureau.
TEXT: Witnesses in the Guinean capital, Conakry, say
in some cases entire families have been detained.
The incidents come after Guinean President Lansana
Conte on Saturday called on citizens and troops to
mobilize against rebels who have been carrying out
assaults along Guinea's border with Sierra Leone and
Liberia. The attacks in recent weeks have killed about
80 people.

The Guinean leader has accused dissident politician
Alpha Conde of using foreign mercenaries in an attempt
to bring down his government. Mr. Conde is currently
on trial, facing charges of treason. A verdict is
expected soon.

More than 300 thousand Sierra Leoneans and more than
100-thousand Liberians have settled in Guinea over the
last decade, following civil wars in the two
