E. Hartford, Conn., Sept. 18, 2000—Pratt & Whitney has been selected as the winner of an unprecedented five-year contract from The Boeing Company, to provide a comprehensive package of off-wing maintenance, repair and overhaul for the C-17 Globemaster III's P&W F117 engines. The contract is valued over $750 million.

"We are pleased to offer a complete service to Boeing and its C-17 customers for added value to owning a Pratt & Whitney engine. The maintenance package is in direct response to customers who want to reduce their cost of ownership and maintenance risk," said Steve Finger, President of P&W Military Engines.

The contract covers the entire C-17 fleet of 533 engines during 2001-2005. The maintenance package provides off-wing maintenance based on aircraft flying time, which results in low-risk, predictable support costs for the U.S. Air Force.

P&W again teamed with United Airlines (UAL) to provide dual East and West coast overhaul repair and test facilities for any Air Force C-17s powered by P&W engines. The P&W/UAL team will provide C-17 engine overhaul and repair services at Charleston Air Force Base Module Replacement Center, with the major depot work done at P&W Engine Services' Cheshire Engine Center in Cheshire, Conn., and at United Airlines' facility in San Francisco, Calif.

Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies company, is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines.
